Dr Kotecha did his early training in Cardiology in London, South Wales and Manchester, before
moving to Southwest England for his specialist Cardiology clinical training. He successfully completed
the prestigious Bournemouth Advanced Interventional Cardiology Fellowship programme. He was
appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton Somerset in 2017.
He then moved back Devon where he has lived for past many years and was appointed as Consultant
Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in November 2018.
He has been successfully appointed as the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) Cardiac
research network lead Cardiologist for the Southwest Peninsula region in August 2019. He has done
presentations at national and international meetings. He has published articles in Cardiology field in
journals. He leads the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda for the NIHR for Southwest Peninsula
region.
He has been elected to the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Council through competitive
national election process.
He is passionate about preventative cardiology. He considers the prevention of heart disease as a
priority, with treatment of high blood pressure, appropriate lipid management, statin therapy,
dietary and weight modification, and exercise. He is clinical lead for the Health Innovation Network
for lipid management promoting preventative cardiology.
He is great believer in getting people back to 'normal life' after heart attack and has specialist
experience in cardiac rehabilitation following a heart attack.
He sees patients with a broad range of all heart conditions including chest pain, breathlessness,
palpitation & heart rhythm irregularity, heart valve murmurs and high blood pressure.
He has extensive experience of assessment and treatment of broad range of all heart conditions
including chest pain (Angina), heart valve murmurs, high blood pressure, palpitation & irregular
heart beat (Atrial Fibrillation) and shortness of breath (Heart Failure). He undertakes angioplasty and
stent insertion for patients with an acute heart attack and angina.
He undertakes a range of cardiac procedures including coronary angiography (cardiac
catheterisation), coronary angioplasty with stent implantation, DC cardioversion for atrial fibrillation;
He contributes to the 24/7 acute heart attack primary angioplasty service. He has particular interest
in intracoronary imaging modalities and complex coronary intervention including for opening up
chronic total occlusions of the arteries.
He enjoys family life in Devon with his loving wife and two kids. He has keen interest in cricket and
plays as an allrounder for one of the local teams.
Qualified from Medical School in India in 2000. All of his postgraduate training in medicine since has been from the United Kingdom.
