Dr Ash Kotecha

Consultant Cardiologist and Interventionalist at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Exeter Nuffield Hospital.

I am a consultant cardiologist specialising in general and interventional cardiology. I trained in London, South Wales, and Manchester, and have been based in the South West of England since 2018. I am also nationally involved in my specialty, serving as an elected member of the British Cardiac Intervention Society Council.

I care for patients with a wide range of heart conditions, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, heart rhythm problems, heart valve murmurs and high blood pressure. I contribute to Devon`s 24/7 emergency heart attack (primary angioplasty) service. I also perform a range of cardiac procedures, including coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation), coronary angioplasty with stent implantation, and electrical cardioversion (DC cardioversion) for atrial fibrillation.

My clinical practice includes a comprehensive range of cardiac procedures, including coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation), coronary angioplasty with stent implantation, and electrical cardioversion (DC cardioversion) for atrial fibrillation. I provide advanced coronary assessment and complex coronary intervention using specialised imaging and intracoronary pressure and blood-flow measurements, including treatment of heavily calcified arteries, disease at artery branch points, and reopening long-standing blocked arteries (chronic total occlusions). I also offer implantation of loop recorders - small devices placed just beneath the skin to continuously monitor heart rhythm.

A central focus of my work is preventative cardiology and long-term heart health. I am particularly passionate about lifestyle modification and cardiac rehabilitation, helping patients recover confidently after being diagnosed with heart conditions or heart attack, and return to a full, active life.
